Tactica Daemon Hunters: Army List
by By Alexander McLaren
Fast Attack Choices:
The only DH Fast Attack (barring allies) is the Grey Knight Teleport Attack Team. Same as the regular GKs but can
always deep strike at no added cost. Yep, units that can deep strike for free even in missions where allowing deep striking
would obviously destroy balance. How can you turn it down?
Recommendations: 2 incinerators or psycannons and drop them within range. As with terminators I find that deep striking is an all or nothing affair. You need several units dropping in to inflict maximum damage and absorb the counter-attack. If you like Grey Knights, ignore the foot sloggers and take 3 of these squads and try and fit in some teleport homers and improved comms to improve your chances when dropping. And don't forget they just have the option of deep striking. If there is situation where you really do not want them to drop in, you can deploy them normally.
Conclusion: A poor choice if you just take 1 or 2 deep strikers. Devastating if you build your army around it.
Heavy Support Choices
The Orbital Barrage comes in 3 flavors, Lance, Melta and Barrage. Each one could ruin your opponent's day. The problem is
they are on reserve, can only target 1 terrain piece and always deviate. Against some static armies (Imperial Guard) that's
fine but against others you might find the Barrage to be useless or even a danger to your units.
Recommendations: What the heck? It's fun and it might just work and they're only 60-80 points. The FAQ makes this much nastier than I thought it would be. You can target any point on a terrain feature no matter how large it is and can change where on the terrain you target each turn (they specifically cite the example of a river running the length of the board). Oh and you are not obliged to tell your opponent what the target is until the shots start raining down.
Conclusion: This will absolutely mess up some armies but be useless other times. Don't count on it for results but it could win you a game. A reminder, you cannot import Heavy Support choices into an allied force. No orbital barrage for you jarheads!
The Grey Knight Purgation Squad is another permutation on the theme. They can get 4 special weapons at higher
prices.
Recommendations: Generally your allies or an Inquisition Fire Base can do the job better. By taking special weapons you lose the Nemesis weapons (S6) that are one of the GK's main advantages. The only really useful version of this I can see is 4 incinerators in a Land Raider.
Conclusion: Not recommended.
The rest are just Land Raiders and Dreadnoughts that have been Grey Knightified. Nothing much to say about them here. If you really need tips on whether and how to use them check out some of the Marine Tacticas floating around.
