Now this isn't a 40k topic... per se, but I thought it appropriate to post here for anyone still playing 40k at the Strat (or Nu Brand!).

A few months ago I discovered a new WWII miniatures game designed by former Games-Workshop authors Rick Priestly, Andy Chambers and Alessio Cavatore called Bolt Action. 'Warhammer 40k streamlined' is often used on the internets to describe Bolt Action, but with a completely historical setting and actually affordable. For any old timers, Bolt Action closely resembles the large-scale Epic 40k, albeit at 28mm, and much easier on the eyes, with a few Warhammer 40k conventions thrown in. And having given the rules a quick gloss over I can say that anyone familiar with 40k should be right at home with Bolt Action's squad based gameplay.

Lance and I are building two forces at the moment, Soviets and Japanese, and if anyone is interested in giving the game a try in the coming weeks, post here or send a private message. If you have non-world-war II figures that are appropriate, Imperial Guard being an example, you're certainly welcome to use them. :orc thumb:

Uhhh... it's not particularly new, right?

If I remember correctly Bianchi was playing this a couple of years ago with one or a couple of his historical chums. I'll pass the word to him there's been new interest.

It's technically two years old, but it's new to me! I think back then very few people even bothered to notice it, myself included, but with things being a bit... different at GW I think it might be time to give the alternatives a try.

I've played this game quite a few times. It's a really well put together set of rules. Nothing too over the top complicated like many of the GW systems can become. Each nation that took part in the war is represented. Forces are built using a points system to build squads and add extras like heavy weapons, snipers, transport and armor. I really can't say one army is stronger than another, when the German tanks come to mind ie; Tigers, Panthers etc keep in mind they are very expensive to add.

Regardless I have no complaints about this game system. Warlord Games has an excellent rep in the historical gaming niche. It would be great to see more people jump into this aspect of gaming.
