Ravenors a Good Unit?

For 120 points you get 3 Ravenors who on the charge have 5 rending attacks each. They are fast, good WS toughness 4 and hit first. Their only downfall is a 5+ save. Deep strike would be tricky but they would be good in a city fight.

What do you think?

Raveners are fantastic - both as cheap, fast and effective assault units and also as very cheap scoring units.

Folks tend to take small units of them: 1s or 2s that hide until the right moment. Deep striking them isn't really worth it in most cases.

At first I wondered if DS raveners would be good vs drop pods, or any mostly DS army, but the fact that most people would arm them for HTH instead of shooting wouldn't really work. They would be hot if they were like demons which would move & assault. :eek

The #2 guy at GT chicago used 8 of them in his godzilla list, 2x2 and 4. They're faster than warriors and throw out more attacks. I haven't played in a while but when I did use them, they got shot up on a fairly empty board. Still, there's something to be said about a 40 point unit that can absorb an entire squad's shooting for a turn...

just make sure you hide them behind some big bugs. That worked out well for the #2 guy.

Ravenors are great against podders if you can keep them hidden. But it can be very hard to find a way to keep something from dropping in behind them if you're advancing at all.
