...to say nothing of the fact that it's a very expensive unit in a list that can't really afford expensive non-armor units...

Sentinals can be useful but you need a clear roll for them early. I personally like them with auto cannons. You keep them deep in your corners with the troops and punish the side armor of vehicles coming down the middle, or you go vehicle hunting. and you can acrefice them to hold up in comiing assault if you are smarta bout staying away from powerfists.

I second the:

"Psycher + Honorifica + Force Weapon can be a nasty surprise for an opponent, and isn't targetable."

It's the only reason tto take a psycher and it a great way to give your army a little teeth in hth against big nasties.

sentinels?! absolutely! :rollin :rollin

I never leave barracks without my full compliment of 12 of them. As with many things in 40k it seems anything in excess works well.

A mix of weaponry - with the flamer at the bottom of the pile - as they usually get shot up before you can reach anyone. My faves are autocannon - but it depends what the rest of the army have in terms of heavy weaponry.

With so many sentinels acting as heavy weapons platoons it enables my troops to don meltas and plasma guns and get up and personal. Not the most effective way to play guard (see ken's articles in the warmonger library for the ultimate guard info) but lots of fun to play.

I'm just a big fan of the figures, and i'll see if i can jerry-rig my website and put some pictures up of them.

It was a 750 point scenario at a tournament and you had like 6 sentinels and an infantry platoon, and I had 2 falcons and a vyper and a couple of storm guardian squads. The autocannon sentinels shot down both falcons (and the vyper). In spite of all my str6 firepower, I was only able to kill a few sentinels, and the whole time your infantry was grabbing objectives unopposed so that you won by a huge margin.

I remember because I was impressed with the autocannon sentinels. Autocannons are the best anti-falcon weapons anyway, and sentinels let you take a lot of them for cheap. In a small-point army in particular, sentinels really compliment an infantry platoon.
