So, would that be fire in 4 ranks when on hills?

Hard to know for sure until we know that's what they're going to be like in the next version and can start playtesting them.

well, I'd love to come to a consensus as to what the rules for them are, before we release V4...

so I'd say try the rules in V3, and also try these:

Blunderbuss
12" range
str4
armor piercing
may move and fire
always hits on 4+ with no modifiers
fires in 3 ranks

don't worry about point cost yet (assume they are 12 or 13 pts) just try to figure out which version of the blunderbuss rules you and you opponents like best.

From an initial impression, the new rules might work better as it's more conventional and less of a one-trick pony (awesome against massed ranks of infantry, bad against everything else).

I would definitely not make them any more expensive though. Even 12pts might be pushing the threshold of what I'd be willing to pay for a Dwarf with a 12" range pistol. I'll try them out though.

Seriously, the range is 12" and they're significantly WORSE vs. RnF. Anyone trying to advocate for a points increase in this incarnation is further off their rocker than the guys who wanted to up their pts. cost in standard 'death to infantry and nothing else' mode.

Larry, I am not asking for input on points cost.

I am asking for us to figure out what the best rule for them is, first.

Stop getting so up in arms about point costs about a unit we stiill have not determined the actual rules for.

thanks.

Well, you determined the rules to be playtested as above, at which point I said 12 pts. seems about right. And for the record, Ronen said that a page ago, and Renefus said it prior to my post, so let's not continually single me out. We do that enough around here.

To toss in another suggestion on the ravening hordes rules, what about base it on those rules but say that you target a unit, and that other units under the template aren't hit as the blunderbusses are focusing their fire towards the target unit? Keeps the 12" killzone but avoids the complications on hitting other units, including friendlies.
