CDs vs. HE

Postby Border Reiver » Wed May 20, 2009 10:33 am

Tried out the list last night in a pick up game at the local GW store.

My list was:

Daemonsmith with shield and the Parasite Blade
19 Warriors with Full command and the War Banner (Daemonsmith here)
20 Warriors with full command
20 Blunderbussiers with full command
5 wolfriders with bows and a musician
19 Obsidian Guard with full command and the Stone Totem (Astrogoth here)
2 Hobgoblin Spear chukkas
Death Rocket
3 Lava Golems, one with ability to hurl lava.

My opponent had:

Lvl 2 Wizard with the item that gives +1 to cast
The Phoenix guard hero
2 units of 10 archers
15 Swordmasters with full command
15 Phoenix guard with full command and the banner of sorcery
Lion chariot and
2 Repeater bolt throwers

Teclis and his apprentice took the Lore of metal, and kept casting distillation of molten silver

What follows are my observations of the annilation that I faced:

Even with the boost in DD magic defence is still really low in this army - for example, the best you can get in a 2K game is 6 DD - and then only if you forgo the fighting power of the Bull Centaur Lord or the CD Lord.

My own magic phase was no great shakes either, with very few bound items getting off (of course that had something to do with the army I was facing).

The Death Rocket is much better than a Mortar, and should likely be increased in points to the level of the dwarf cannon, due to the lack of scatter, and the better crew. The 5" template may be overkill, but this is slightly compensated for by it being only S3. What is not clear is whether the hits cause multiple wounds (we decided that it did D3 like a cannon).

Either the PG are ridiculously underpriced or everything else is overpriced - not sure which, but I know which way I'm leaning....

In hand to hand the warriors did OK, not specatacularly, but OK.

Even with the Unyielding ability to always march it still takes a long time to get across the board, especially when elves play the "lets avoid combat til the last turn" game.

I want to try this list again, so next week I'll see if I can get away and fight some other army

The reaction was "Neat, can I have a look at the rules", followed by "Where's the link to the rules?"

The lads at GW Bayshore are fairly laid back.
