n00b Question on units

Postby elrodogg » Tue Nov 30, 2010 11:05 am

How does damage work against units? Say a unit is 4 strong and the damage is listed at 8. Does each model have 8 wounds they can take and do you keep track of each model seperately? Or for each 8 wounds you do the unit loses a model?

each model has 8 wounds- you mark them off on the cards.

Gotcha. So each model keeps fighting till it takes the 8 wounds. So in theory, a unit of four could take 7 wounds each on four guys and still keep fighting with all four.

Exactly, there is a Menoth unit that can spread the unit around to get that exact situation.

keep in mind that your opponent is the one who indicates which model he is targeting, not you. so if he is not a tool he will finish off individual models , not spread wounds around.

Also keep in mind some units have a unit leader who may have 2 extra points of life compared to another grunt, for example 10 vs 8. If you lose the unit leader, a grunt takes his place but does not gain the extra life points. It may sound dumb to point out, but we ran into it at a Steam Roller in the past...

When shooting at a unit, does the target get picked out?

You target individual models within a unit.

Each model has it's own damage track. If Damage is listed, every model in the unit can take that much damage before being killed. In some cases, one model in the unit will have more damage than others. This will be noted with different sets of stats. The other thing to remember is that if no damage is listed it's automatically assumed to be 1.

If the unit leader gets killed you nominate a grunt to be the new unit leader. This allows the unit to continue to be able to do things like run and charge even if the unit leader dies. In some cases the unit leader is considered an "officer". This model is the unit leader until they die, at which point either the original leader model or a new grunt is nominated as the unit leader. Typically an officer is either a character like Boomhowler or Sam McHorne, that has extra abilities that models in the unit might lack.
The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alter their views to fit the facts. They alter the facts to fit their views. Which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.
