Are you guys running a Journeyman League?

Hey Guys!

I'm not a regular but I'm a friend of Lou Branco's.

I saw this recently on the Privateer Press website and got totally excited! I've always wanted to get into Warmachine and this seems like the perfect opportunity to build a force and try it out!

I remember from my visits to the club how dedicated a following there was for Hordes and Warmachine - I couldn't think of a better group to learn from!

Would you guys be running a similar campaign to the one advertised by PP?

Hope to hear from you soon!

-Joey

I wasn't planning on running a journeyman league, however, we do have enough new players that it's easy to pick up some smaller games these days to try out a new army without much fuss. We have a fair mix of new and casual players with some who are really trying to get better at competitive play.

The other issue is that the "official" journeyman league also puts a lot of emphasis on the hobby aspect, which I think is great, but many of our players are pretty new to this altogether.

If there is enough interest from others then it's always a possibility.

Yeah, I was a little depressed by all the unpainted mini's - things didn't seem too organized :P

If you could pull it off that would be great! But if not I understand - I'll try to stop in next Thursday with my Khador starter box!

I think journeyman league would be cool, but I don't like the emphasis on battlebox units. Casters are a great, cheap way to shift your playstyle, being stuck with one guy for 5 weeks you don't like much can kind of be a drag.

Good point, I don't see why people can't be flexible?

At the end of the day, the goal is to have fun and encourage people to learn and paint at a fun pace!

That way, you're not buying 60 points ($200?) of unpainted models trying to figure out what's going on! :)

I would be interested in a Journeyman, or any similar sort of beginner league. I picked up a Cryx box not long ago and have been working on getting it painted and finding time to come down for some beginner games.

There will indeed be a Journeyman League coming, just not sure what the timing is going to be. I also plan for some added flexibility in the early weeks, just not sure how much yet.

Nick, any idea on what the point escalation will be? My wargaming A.D.D is taking hold.

I also made the mistake of deciding how I'd participate in any League like this. Now I had the Cygnar book in my hand for too long and I'll have to keep my purchasing under control until it comes around.

Right now I'm looking at 12 weeks beginning in December, with each week being doubled up from the original rules. One modification I'm looking to make is having one model swap of the same type (caster for caster, heavy for heavy, light for light, no character jacks/beasts) beginning in week 2, and then adding a second model swap at the second series of 25 point levels.

week 1: battlebox only (bb)
week 2: battlebox with one swap (cbb)
week 3: 15, bb or cbb required
week 4: 15, bb or cbb required
week 5: 25, bb or cbb required
week 6: 25, bb or cbb required
week 7: 25, bb or cbb required; 2nd model swap allowed (cbb2)
week 8: 25, bb, cbb, or cbb2 required
week 9: 35, bb, cbb, or cbb2 required
week 10: 35, bb, cbb, or cbb2 required
week 11: 35, no restrictions
week 12: 35, no restrictions
