Dullcote Lacquer Thinner?

Postby ampao » Tue May 11, 2010 7:13 pm

So I gave up on the GW Matte Varnish. Picked up a bottle of the Testors Dullcote Lacquer. Should I have bought a bottle of lacquer thinner? Or should water be good enough?

Not a very helpful answer, but: I recommend the spray Dullcote.

Honestly it's a bitch to get in NYC. I used to get it from a hobby store in Chelsea, but they went out of business. Jan's Hobby has it if it's in stock - call first.

How much do you need? If you're just spraying a few units for Boston you're welcome to just use mine at McNabb's Friday night. Pretty positive I'll be spraying my new units then and there.

Otherwise I'd just recommend ordering it online. You can find it ridiculously cheap.

Alright! Thanks! Just a few models, if you got extras. :)

I'll still be ordering online, if you want to get a can. Found it available at the warstore.

Neil loses the internet price war I'm afraid.

$3.79 per bottle from http://www.myatomic.com/catalog/viewsku?sku=TES1260 with free shipping over $25. Found a couple of cheaper places, but they all seem to gouge on shipping. I found a place awhile ago that let you order by the case for close to $2.50 a bottle, but never got around to using them and can't seem to find em now.

Dullcote never goes wasted around my house, pick up however many extra gets you to $25 and I'll pay ya back for em.

Not to mention when Ronen finally sees this he'll beg to get in on the order, so I'm sure $25 ain't hard. Get me 5 cans.

As a general rough guesstimate I'd say it takes about a can to do your basic army all in one go. I tend to do two coats of it though, so 2 for me.

More if you're doing it unit by unit - 2 cans per "army" feels about right.
