lol

As it happens both Andys use the same basing material. I too use the Liquitex stuff, but I use the Resin Sand variety. There's quite a choice

liquitex gel range

I actually paint my miniatures and their bases separately, sticking the work in progress minis on any old bases I have lying around and only fixing them to the bases after I've painted them both. I generally put a pin in the foot of every mini and then just drill into the base to attach them.

I have used the sanded gel medium on bases, applied after painting. I used a small pallette knife to apply the medium. When it was dry, it was ready to paint. Being acrylic, it was already "primed".

Purple!

Should look very "midnight on the coast".

Should also take designs, like stars or elf runes, very well.

Purple is working! Looks very cool, and not dark-elvish at all (my original worry with purple). I'll post pics when I figure out what little pattern to stick on the cloth. Right now, it's triangular clusters of 3 yellow dots. (there's something like it.. blue dots on white cloth.. in the HE book.)
Jaghatai, on the Pale Rider event: I hop on this board to post a simple NEWCC question, end up looking at some interacial lesbian action and watch a religious meltdown. You guys know how to party!
