Easiest way to get meltaguns/plasmaguns

Postby -Thrax » Tue May 10, 2005 1:02 am

Trying to kit out my Death Guard, running out of plasma/meltaguns...does anyone know the cheapest way (sprues, blisters, etc) to find them? I'm tired of converting my "free" heavy bolters into makeshift meltaguns.

The cheapest way to purchase them would have to be Special weapon Catachans. I've seen Catachan models sold for fifty cents each on ebay.

Some other ideas:

I took a lasgun wielding Guardsman, and with about $0.0001 of clay, I molded a meltagun-sized cylinder around the end of the barrel. When the clay dried, I dripped superglue over the cylinder to give it strength and I painted it the appropriate colors. No one has noticed yet.

In one other case, I snipped the end off of a lasgun (just the portion of the barrel up to where the stock begins). THen I glued on a plastic PlasPistol tip.
No one noticed that one either.

I always paint my plasmagun tip bright yellow, the meltgun tip is gold, and the flamer tip is red.
This way it's plain as day for all involved.
THis takes the attention completely off the rifle stock, and therefore makes it eyons easier to convert a model who is cradeling his rifle.

Maybe this helps.

In another thread, I'm having a bitch of a time getting a Paycannon onto an INquisitor. I suppose I have to use a Terminator arm.

Sergeant, I've noticed people using conversions like your but I never bother to say anything cuz I used to do it too and didn't think much of it.

Nowadays, I always get my hands on original guns. It just looks better and my conscience is clear. :D

BTW, for my psycan =I=, I used a kasikryn plasmagun mini. It's bulky looking on him, has wires going into his backpack, and he's holding it with two hands. I thought it was perfect.

My HB servitors are SM scouts w/HB's. Awesome

I did something similar as Sgt Dirty Dozen but i used IG flamer instead.
Snip it off just afront of where the shoulder sling connects, model a nozzle from there (model around pin(s) required).
For battery backpacks you can use vox casters. Remove antennas and add some GS in appropriate places and you are practically done.

Best part, most IG players have bucketloads of these things so you can get them very cheap or even for free.

These plasmas/meltas will look rather small in a marine army so you'd certainly like to bulk them up but they work very well as is for IG

OK, so, if I were to get "original" guns...what's the best -- read: cheapest -- way? I'll do the IG idea if I have to (thanks for that), but I'd prefer original, obviously.

The easiest way to get melta/plasmaguns that I can think of is the Raptor special weapons sprue. It has a meltagun, a plasmagun and a flamer and I think it costs like $1.50 bits ordered. Sounds like exactly what you need.

Wow, that is a whole lot cheaper. Thanks, Caped Crusader! You've saved the day. 8)
