Ok, ok... Casino Royale!

No fellas, actually I just saw Casino Royale tonight. I must say, very enjoyable! Bond was handled a bit more maturely than in previous flicks. His character flaws - like that he's a trained assassin with little conscience, no remorse, and even some eagerness - were not sugar-coated with shit humor. He wasn't a running gag of cliched quips and catch phrases, and the plot served more than to simply deliver hundreds of bodies into the path of his guns. This was a movie about killing a dozen men well instead of a thousand idiotically, and I am all about killing in style. Just loved the opening scenes.

As far as bond's gal, sexy not slutty was another move in the right direction. Fun to watch and watch act.

Solid villain(s) and torturous torture made the stakes clear. And guys, when I say torturous, well... you'll see. Double-crossing and layers of evil definitely give the flick the cloudy atmosphere of global espionage.

One complaint. There were some slowdown moments. I'm not expecting crack smoking high energy through and through, but these couple of instances were palpable. I would say 10 minutes could have been chopped out of this movie to keep momentum. Still, the actors were definitely enjoyable enough to bear with.

To be clear this is a Bond movie, have no doubt about it. There is much homage here, but it's well delivered. I'm not really a Bond fan - I liked Roger Moore when I was 10 - but if this is the first film of many I'm definitely along for the ride.

The thumb of the hand not scratching my nuts is definitely up. Right or left is your guess.

Oh and Chris Cornell does the song. Sweet.

Did they include the infamous bottmless-chair-tennis-raquet-spanking Bond torture scene from the Fleming novel?
