750 Paint n play

Ok so my local GW is having a 750 pt paint and play thing in March..... I've been meaning to paint some high elves, so this gives me motivation to get off my butt and do so.

I'm thinking something Hoeth themed(mainly because I have a bunch of swordmasters) What should I be looking at list wise?

I was thing thinking something like.....
20 man block of spears
10-15 swordmasters

Gives me a decent core to work with, but what to fill the rest of the points? If I can find my elf bits(lord knows where they are.....>.<) I could add in some archers and a bolt thrower..... I have a chariot laying around and plenty of cav to work with..... of course the eagles are in there somewhere too..... thoughts?

Hoeth sounds fun. Though you need to accept that SM will never be WL or Phoenix guard. But they can be very effective.

High Elves work best when they are a bit more diffused, and less concentrated. Right now you only have 2 effective units, that's not going to let you exploit your movement as much as you would like.

I would perhaps bulk up the swordmasters a bit, to like 18? Then run them 6x3. That should get you a good 24 attacks (obviously some/a lot will die getting in).

Core should be more chaff/shooting centered. Maybe think about some smaller units of archers, and definitely include a unit of ellyrian reavers or two. Then think about maybe an eagle, could also do a rbt.

How about a couple smaller units of Seagaurd instead of archers?

Something like mage, 2x 10 seaguard, 18 swordmasters, then fill in?

Seaguard versus archers are basically whichever one you like better. I tend to like seaguard a bit bigger so that they can pretend to fight.

I think that the 30" that the archers offer is better than the seaguard, but it marginally better at best.

What about 15 seaguard, a unit of ellyrian reavers, then 18 Swords.

That could definitely work. The seagaurd can shoot in three ranks too can they? or maybe go 16 and run 8x2? Unit of reavers say 5 or so?

yeah they can. Why do 8x2? You get as many attacks going 3x5 (+1 if you want) as you do going 8x2, you take up less space and you are easier to move.

Yes, go 5 man reavers with a musician. I like having bows + spears, but the bows are highly optional and only there if points allow.

Alternatively, I've found 5 man silverhelms to be pretty annoying as well. Though they clock in at 125 with a musician, whereas reavers with just a musician are like 90ish?
