Hmm... I was thinking about Andy's post on the main board about high elves. If anyone is not away, the elves will be switched over to "normal" elves with the new book. Assuming things don't change,

I'll probably drop the big magic and go with the uber-caddy Andy talked about. The flamethrower on the eagle was always a great thorn in the side of enemy infantry (assuming that item stays). The two bow specialists are great for picking on enemy cav and support units (and hunting mages, where needed). I think that if you can take out enemy support, elven infantry rocks just about any infantry in the game. (dwarves are an issue.. but the movement difference should help)

BSB's never fit into my battle philosophy. They imply losing combat by a bit and then relying on dice. Plus, they're only good in a 12 inch radius. I never liked that plan. Didn't like it with the orcs, don't like it with the elves.

Elven chariots are damn fragile. But I'll build a couple just for fun.

Damn.. how come nobody told me about the high-elves before? These guys are FUN!!! :D

Well, You can't have the bolt thrower bow and the super caddy.

And who knows about the flamethrower - it's an Albion item anyway.

For that matter, who knows about any of the magical items when the new book comes out. At least one rumor bouncing around out there says the HE "discount" on items is leaving - so no more 20pt scrolls - no more super caddy.

But who knows: it's a ways away.

I've tried the BSB on chariot w/ warbanner, he was fun - but vulnerable and nothing special.

There was some wording in 6th that made it semi-sketchy to go the Elyrian route, so I never tried that. Someone told me the other day that language has been cleared up enough that taking the banner was 100% fine on a chariot now - but I haven't had the desire to actually mess with WFB rules in months, so can't confirm.

BSB's are better now since they add combat res to the fights, it's like buying a war banner upgrade for your hero.

That's true. There was a unit of empire swordsmen last night with a unit banner and the BSB. I had a flank charge on them with a unit of elven spearmen. I would have had +1 flank, +1 rank, +1 standard to start. They would have had +1 outnumber, +1 banner, +1 bsb... and MAYBE +1 warbanner. Then I would have to kill one more of them than I lost just to tie. It was too rich of a gamble for my blood and I held back. A battle-standard with an unknown banner is a hell of a deterrent these days.

But see, though I like the BSB for the potential +2 combat res, I'm not crazy about using it for the reroll after losing combat. If I'm losing, I shouldn't have been fighting! And since my army is neither stubborn nor immune to psych, I don't feel that it's of enough value or necessity. If I were dwarves, who barely ever lose and have great leadership, it's great.

Hmm... maybe I'll paint one up as an experiment. That banner of +d6 combat res is just WRONG!!! On a mounted model, charges in, challenges, wins combay by 3 all by his lonesome vs. a ranked unit. WTF?!?!? :lol

Nidal,

The BSB's utility in re-rolling break tests is not that you can rely on your units holding, it's that your opponent cannot rely on your units breaking. A smart opponent will re-consider a charge if the ramifications of you holding are strong enough.

Excellent point. So just like I held, another good player might not want to take the risk and hold. (and by the way, he DIDN'T have the warbanner) :lol

And if it's a bad player, I'm going to kick his ass anyway. Hmmm... well, I'll certainly paint one to use occasionally. :)

Thanks for the tip

Where/how do you use it in your wood-elf army? I assume it's in your eternal guard unit, correct? Do you mount him so he can run out on his own occasionally? Which banner do you give him
