Speaking of crappy fighter types, I found out a disturbing fact in my last game: A high-elf mage isn't as good as an orc mage for wacking a model in close combat. Saruman would ALWAYS kill whichever mofo stood in front of him. This elf SOB never does. What's up with that

How was he doing that? Some sort of special Nidal only rules interp? :p

Just play that your elf mage has a choppa. Then when called on it, claim ignorance. :eek

Heck I had him easy with a 20" flying charge from like 8" away and somehow he lived and I died!

:rollin

Nidal is the man for a reason.

Saruman didn't need the choppa. He just killed your ass. (I actually won game 5 of the 05 Baltimore GT and got a Best General out of the deal on a Saruman challenge.

Alrighty, well what would be the ideal kit for the BSB then? Sword of the Lady's Chump? When it slams in with the Grail Knight package, it's effective str7 ignores the scaly skin. Granted, the high amounts of str6 hits will effectively do the same, but there doesn't seem to be much else I'd want. Well...except holy icon to make sure they are unmolested until the hit.

Best Bret BsB EVER is Vitue of Discipline( never outnumbered) and the Gromil Helm( 6+save and reroll armor saves) on a GK.

That is a dirty tarpit that can break games for you. I have charged 4 ogres who had no banner in the flank landed a W and sent em packing! WEs...lol Dryad hunter from hell! Chariots...not a prob. This guy does it all!

Grails are usually fine on their own. If you know he's going to be in a unit then consider a strength boost like a sword of might, and the virtue of discipline or war banner (depending on where war banner is). If he's going to break off then I think Todd's suggestion is a very good choice

I figure he'll be in the unit of Grail Knights. The strength boost will be the Sword of Lady's Champion. For the 20pt increase over the sword of might, I always strike at a S that's +1 to the target's toughness. Against this chaos guy, it will always be 5 or higher. It doesn't allow me the virtue of discipline, but I'm not worried about that. Unless I should be...well, this week I'll be attacking 4 of his territories with banners, so I'll be able to swap back and forth to see which works better.

I tend to find a mobile +1 to combat res (+2 with the battle standard) highly useful
