VC idea

How workable would it be to have 5 units of skeleton spears, each of 25? If the general is in the middle one, and each unit was touching, then everyone could march. Good luck charging it, or simply inflated fun?

Why spears instead of 4+ light armor, hw + shield. Skeletons don't win by killing, they win by staying "alive" - outnumbering and autobreaking

I charge your whole line at once with multiple units of hitty things (6 bret lances, or 3 units of spear-elves with chariots on the corners, etc.). My troops/chariots/characters kill 20-25 skellies in that first round of combat. Your skellies kill... 3 (all from the vamp). You lose 25 more models from EACH unit. **poof**

Against a LINE of undead blocks, it works GREAT for the non-undead when you can turn it into a single giant combat, as crumble-combat-res will stack between every unit.

Really lots of blocks of infantry is not a new thing. What else is in the list

I know it's not a new idea, but I like the sight of masses of undead. I figured I'd run it by you all to see if it would be workable, but you're right. Probably not...

Well, after including some necromancers and a vampire, I suppose I'd be looking at about 500 points left. Black knights? Fell bats or dogs to bother the flanks and warmachines. I dunno.

Has anybody actually done those unofficial lists in the back of the book? Because if you were able to get away with the Bretonnian one...crazy.

It's not unworkable. Necromancer lists tend to run massed infantry (zombies though). See what you can manage with your remaining points after characters then ease back the infantry where needed. Dropping one or two units of 25 skellies to 25 zombies is a good way to get points without losing that mass or effectiveness. Wolves, ghouls, and fell bats are all good.

Massed infantry works fine. Having them all flush up against one another doesn't.

It's just begging your opponent to hit you with something killy and completly destroy your army in a single combat phase.

Oh, and ghouls, ghouls and more ghouls! One of the best units in the game!

Sure, if you put everything in a line all at once, then you lose. Stagger your lines a bit and you'll do fine.

I've found (using dwarfs mind you), that having more than 4 infantry blocks tends to get redundant. Your blocks aren't cheap enough to not care if they don't get used (unlike say an extra unit of goblins). After 4 they start getting in each other's way.

Unless your 5th block just sits behind your other 4 and holds your necromancers safely

Jarret - You're right, but you don't need a 25 man skellie unit for that. 10 zombies to start is more than adequate for necromancer protection.
