Painting Black & White

Postby deFl0 » Mon Oct 25, 2010 2:40 pm

So my Raven Guard are going to be primarily black and white. So I need to decide if I go more monochrome or if I go more with the blues greys.

My thoughts are that I will be basing on ice terrain, so blue and white.

I'm looking for good exmples of black and white highlighted with the blue grays and black and white highlighted with the monochrome grays.

Also what would be the color progression for the two paths.

Funny you should mention that. I was just trying out a monochrome scheme on an old dark eldar model I had lying around.

If you're going with ice bases you should absolutely go the blue-gray route, rather than a neutral white-gray scale like Owen shows. Don't get me wrong, it looks good, but I think you want to tie the model in with the coolness of the bases, and the blue-gray scale does that.

The progression would be Shadow, Space Wolves, Ghostly and White would be your colors, though most of the model should remain near-black. That's Sombre,
Wolf, and Ghost if you're doing Vallejo.

Chick in leather is a good example of blue-grays on mostly black:

Very blue gray:

Here's an example of the pallete I'm thinking of:

This isn't exactly what I'm talking about, but it combines it with blue sky tones in an interesting way:

Where did you get that sepia ranger dude from? That's fantastic painting. Is there a guide for it?
Fast, like kittens with jetpacks.

I t would be fun to split a logon to miniture mentor and and watch it all at once as all try to paint the same mini and see how it goes.
