I feel like it would be harder to get teams if everyone has to play every system. I for one only know fantasy.

Which makes the other games that much more fun/comical. Look, there are not a lot of people on the planet that are going to be excited about driving out to the frakking wilds of Long Island to the strip mall (if that) that Grim exists in, to participate in a tournament where every club in the region has sent their frigging ringers. On the other hand, a tournament wherein individuals get a chance to prove what sort of awesome tabletop MONSTERS they are, coupled with a safety net to be sure that the club/group has assurances to not be humiliated...that has appeal.

Jarrett and I loved combat patrol at adepticon and were talking about how much fun small point team tournies could be.

Anyway, for 40k adepticon has a great template.

This sounds interested except that the August time frame has Gencon August 4-7 and Nova Open August 26-28 so will be sort of booked.
