Painting Blog

Postby Arash » Sat Apr 30, 2011 7:19 am

When I was in California last March, I decided that I needed to pick up some Warmachine stuff in order to actually play games when I get back to New York. Thus, I picked up some Retribution models, and am slowly making my way through them.

I decided to start painting up the infantry first (some WFB habits die hard) and the first unit on my table was the halberdiers.

Wanted to make sure that I finished something before I posted though, because I wanted to make sure that I didn't just start a blog, post something half complete, and then never finish it. This way I am making sure that when I never finish this, at least there is one unit that is finished.

Since the army is relatively small, I decided that doing army wide NMM wasn't going to make me kill myself and those in near vicinity of me. I also noticed that I had a left over bottle of water effects from my Tomb King display board (the pit of strawberry jam as Andy "affectionately" calls it). I also wanted to do a color that wasn't red or purple as my main color. I love these two colors, and they end up being the emphasis of most my models.

I came up with this, which I am pleased with-

A basic look of all the dudes together (hard to get all 12 into a shot that I liked)

Thanks! I need better light, for photos and just in general painting terms.

As for Malifaux, I don't know. I'd have to test it out first. At first glance, there aren't that many crews? (troupes? Armies? squadrons?) that jump out at me aesthetically.

Really nice job! Love the colors you've chosen, and well executed.

Is that supposed to be green marsh on the base? It doesn't really match the model. It's kind of glaring going green/gray/yellow.

Looking forward to the rest of these!

I like the bases - the gold and the grass compliment each other nicely. The darker green seemed off at first, but the more I look at it the more I think it works

I agree, the gold and grass do go well. It's the grass with the gray and sewage-looking green that seem off to me.

It's the dead grass.

I'm not loving it, but without it the bases look really dead.
