Gold, black wash (maybe watered down some), gold highlights. That's what I would do.

I used Black wash on my viktorias' gold part and it was super easy and pretty good looking. Was set against blues and purples and matched the cooler palette.

I prefer a non-black wash for a more brown-gold base, then highlights.

Ogryn flesh works pretty well too - looks a little bronzy but I liked it on my Friekorps.

I've used vallejo smoke to good effect. Devlan mud works well too.
Fast, like kittens with jetpacks.

Don't bother painting them gold at all.

Basecoat silver, wash with watered down Devlin Mud, highlight silver, wash with Sepia as many times until you love it.

I use the sepia wash or devlan mud depending on the tone I want.

Vallejo smoke is pretty diesel - reallys triking effect. Never tried it on gold though.
