Some Sisters of Battle I've been working on

Postby teddet » Fri Oct 19, 2012 4:02 pm

Now I just need enough time to get down to the club before 9pm on thursdays...

You might recognize the paint scheme from the brets I've been working on (i want to get a few things nailed down here, then go back to finish the bret's barding, etc).

Now, if you made it through that wall of text, the question is how to base them. I'd love to do something similar to my bret models because I think the blue looks amazing contrasted with the yellow, but it might be weird to have 40k models walking on water... Thoughts?

More pics:

New Special Character/Missionary:

I'm terrible at eyes -- but I'm happy he at least looks "possessed" :D

A unit of battle sisters to seize objectives, etc:

Currently, they're led by the only sister smart enough to wear her helmet. Also, despite posing on the rhino, they may be giving up their ride to hug the baseline and let others steal it.

And a new unit of dominions:

And Celestine has decided to join the Seraphim:

Her eyes look more "possessed" and less washed out IRL, but it looks like I'll have to fix them.

And a diversion: These guys are just to get a fun marine paint scheme.

Looking good!

I agree, another army walking on water might be a bit odd. Ice bases could work nicely though if you want to keep the blue. I would personally do something black-based though - look how much more visual impact the girl with the scroll standing next to Kyrinov has.

I agree on the black/dark bases. You can always add some pools of water made of greenstuff or water effect on parts of the base if you so desire.

I don't like caution stripes -- I think you can break up the models using sister's symbols and dark hatches, etc. But that's just me. Overall I think yellow sisters is working quite well.

Example of bases with partial water pools:

Look great. Big fan of the yellow.

Agree with a darker scheme for the basing... asphalt, dark grey urban or some sort of deck plate / dark metallic could work as well.

Yeah -- i was thinking the dark basing would make them pop too (which is why I thought of the water bases). I do have some plastic "metal grill" from a train store. I might see what that would look like if I chopped it up and put it on bases.

One unit of sisters (already painted) has moved to higher ground. They've lent their Rhino to a different squad (squad "purple")

And here's the new squad. I think the main idea will be that each unit has either red, yellow or purple guns. I was thinking that hazard stripes might also help identify the elite/fast/heavy units, but i'm not full sold on my strip abilities, plus I've gotten better at highlighting the guns since I started, so am tempted to just repaint the old ones with the same colours as everything else.

Okay, I've been looking at basing ideas. Any thoughts on one of these two?

The temple bases would let me do darker tile colours (but maybe break it up with a light tan/sand colour that would match the board), and the steel invasion ones would let me do dark metal decking with just the aliens to add colour. Of course, then I'd have to build an "alien invasion" board...

Okay, the last unit of battle sisters is mostly done, so the 1750pt army is together (except for finishing touches on the tanks and a few of the girls).

This is the whole force:

Here's the new squad; squad yellow:

And the Seraphim have hair colours now:

(I think i will make their guns purple though)

Lastly, one more missionary model for the force:

And then some extra guys who aren't really part of the army, but will join as necessary:

(thoughts on which of the missionary models I should use?)

IMHO Uriah Jacobus and Kyrinov are two of the best models GW has ever made, so use those!

Yeah -- I do think both are pretty fantastic models.

I decided that the fleur-de-lys on the tanks would be purple to contrast with the yellow. Started on one last night (still needs the final stripe of white).
