New Dark Elf Army Project

Postby teddet » Tue Oct 15, 2013 11:16 am

I was suckered in by the new models, so am going to put together an army of new plastics (and a few Dark Eldar models where necessary to fill any gaps).

Here's the current paint scheme I'm working towards:

And a closer shot (I think the weapons will be silver, like the left-hand models, rather than red).

I think I might actually prefer the red weapons? Gives a nice contrasting color on the front of the model to go along with the red cloaks on the back.

Well done. The black, white and red scheme is fantastic. I diagree with Andrew, I think no more than one or two items per dude should be red.

What the basing going to be?

I'm worried it might make for too much red on the models? I want it to be really striking where it shows up -- and probably mostly related to the dinosaur scales. Maybe I'll leave the champ's weapons red, and do the rest silver?

Bone weapons could be bad ass.

I actually like the red weapons with red cloaks. If you give it some sharp highlighting to make it look crystalline that would really sell it. Nice!

hmmm. Thanks for all the comments. Hadn't thought of bone weapons -- do you think that would introduce too much of a warm color to the palette? The armour is blue-gray through white, while the clothes are shades of "true" grey. Having a bone color might warm up the model more? Also, I was going to do the bases in cream-white (for the sand), and black/dark grey for the stone. I'll try one of the swords in bone, and see what it looks like. These corsairs are likely going into units of handbow corsairs, so I don't have to confirm all their weapon colours just yet.

I might try for the crystaline look on the red, but I'm not confident in my ability to pull it off :D.

So, twitter votes also seemed to be for red. I'm going to try to do the sharp highlights and see what I can get. In the mean time, I've been working on the Cold One Knights and the dreadlord on peg.

Here's what I came up with for the "Crystal" sword. Any suggestions would be welcome.
